Keeping the wheels of Galloway turning for over 160 years!
McCreadie’s is the progression of a long established family business tracing its roots back to the early 19th century.
There have been McCreadie’s in business on the same site as the current modern dealership stands since the early 1800s when the current managing director Ian McCreadie’s ancestors ran a blacksmiths business.
The changeover from horses to horsepower came in 1929. Two years previously Robert McCreadie, Ian McCreadie’s grandfather, a skilled engineer, had lost his right arm in a motorcycle accident. Faced with the difficulties of a handicapped person finding employment in the 1920s, Robert McCreadie turned his skills to the maintenance and sale of the new horse-less carriages and started in the motor trade.
In the early days McCreadie’s dealt in cars from all over the world, Model T Fords from America, Bonnards from France and many of the old names like Galloways and Arrol Johnsons manufactured locally at Heathhall, Dumfries.
The firm progressed, carried on through the war years and by the time the present managing director was born had become a trusted family business.
The firm continued to thrive on the ethos of providing a service where the Customer Comes First, and was appointed to represent Volkswagen and Audi in Wigtownshire in 1986.
Today as Volkswagen Group specialists with over 30 years of Volkswagen experience, McCreadie’s continue to offer the very best in customer service and look forward to continuing to do so well into the 21st century.
